Marine Corps League Meeting Minutes

September 13th, 2008

The meeting was called to order. Patrick Tutor, State Commandant, swore in the new J C Hooker Detachment Officers and new members: Dan Dye, Commandant; Richard Caron, Senior Vice Commandant; Baxter Tucker, Chaplain and Tim Pruitt, a new and welcome member of the Detachment. A moment of silence and a brief memorial by the Commandant were observed for deceased member Don Fauver who was one of the charter members of the Detachment. Plans were made for the next Detachment meeting to be held in Stafford Park for a picnic style outing on October 25th, 2008 with all members and their families invited to attend. Initial plans for the upcoming Marine Corps Ball were laid, with the date set as November 8th, the regular meeting date (Saturday) with the Auxiliary to be in charge of planning and logistics for the ball. Paperwork that had to be sent to National was reviewed and completed and will be forwarded to National Headquarters. The upcoming State Conference in Meridian was discussed and all members who could were urged to attend. The conference will be the weekend of September 19th. Recommendations were made for notifying potential new members via postcard to let them know that they were welcome to come to the meetings and of the dates, times and places for them. Retention of members and recruitment were addressed, as usual. The meeting lasted a little longer than they normally do due to the new and old business that was laid to rest.
